Thank you for all of your kind and guiding words to the kids today – your interactions with them are priceless and will carry a life long impact.
I keep forgetting to tell you. Do you remember when you pulled me aside to talk about ---------'s challenge with his tracking of his foot movements? Well when we got home that night he pulled me aside and showed me his foot. He had a huge bruise from a tendon strain (or something like that) that I did not know about. That you caught that change in his movement is just amazing.
Thank you for all that you do for our family.
Ages five to twelve years old.
CHARACTER BUILDING IN A COMPLETE ATHLETIC PROGRAM
Mathew Bayley is both a professional educator with over 40 years’ experience and a Grand Master of the Martial Arts, so his youth programs are designed to instill self-esteem, confidence, and self-discipline in the framework of a unique martial arts curriculum.
Master Bayley’s success in developing children’s empowerment and self-protection programs is recognized at the national and state levels. Awards include a National Certificate of Appreciation from the Girl Scouts of America, Commendation from The National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and a Commendation from the Commissioner of Education for the State of Colorado,
The school-year program is two days per week:
The Class size is no more than 16 students with one or more Black Belt teachers assisting Master Bayley.
Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:15
From September 5th to May 24th
Cost $135.00 per month
Registration Fee: First and last months’ tuition $270.00
Admission to the youth program is limited to students who demonstrate maturity and who are committed to the program for the duration. Both are necessary to study martial arts safely and productively every week when school is in session over the course of a school year. Initially, this is an assessment that parents must make with their sons or daughters. Not everyone is willing to make, or can fulfill, such a commitment.
Parents whose sons or daughters have not yet reached this level of maturity should not enroll their young adult in this program. It requires mastering both philosophy and physical skills. It takes dedication. Parent and student should understand that this significant commitment of time and financial resources is not waived or reduced for any student. You must be comfortable with these requirements before enrolling.
The youth program’s eligibility test is stringent because, among other reasons, this level of maturity is necessary to learn and practice martial arts skills and decision-making safely. The youth program is not for every young person; yet those with the capacity to absorb and enjoy its discipline will develop skills to last a lifetime.

Adaptive Martial Arts
Especially up here in the high country most adults over the age of thirty have rehab at least one orthopedic injury. At 67 Grand Master Bayley has personal experience through kayaking and snowboarding of this reality. There are literally thousands of simple effective martial arts / self-protection techniques that enable a person to defend themselves from a violent criminal. Grand Master Bayley tailors his adult martial arts program to the needs of each student. The perfect cross training for all other athletic activities, the adult program taught at Vail Academy of Martial Arts gives each student the skill needed to protect themselves and their loved ones without compromising old injuries.
$100.00 per month

To be clear, the adult program is not a sports martial art class. It is an Urban Close Quarter Combat Class.
Master Bayley is certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for law enforcement; he has trained with, trained under, and has been the instructor for elite units of every branch of the U.S. military. He developed this class for adults who wish to learn how to protect themselves and their families.
There is, however, another unique aspect to the adult program: it is adaptive. That is, it is designed specifically to minimize athletic injuries that adults may suffer in any kind of sporting endeavor or athletic training. In martial arts, adults often ask: “Can I learn an aggressive self-defense system without getting hurt?” Yes indeed, the chances of injury can be greatly reduced with the proper instructor.
As an example, during Desert Storm, Master Bayley worked with helicopter pilots, instructing them how to defend themselves against multiple attackers if they were shot down behind enemy lines.
A pilot injured in this type of training cannot deploy, so safety in training, even in highly dangerous environments, is paramount. The Army selected Master Bayley as the instructor for this rigorous training because of his reputation for keeping pilots safe and injury-free.
If the ability to protect yourself and your family is a skill set you want to acquire, this is the program you been looking for.

Since 1977 the Vail Academy of Martial Arts has been the one constant in martial arts education in the Vail Valley. Children and adults benefit from a wide variety of blended martial arts programs. Grand Master Mathew Bayley, a 7th degree black belt in Chinese martial arts and a 3rd degree black belt in ju-jitsu, is also widely recognized as a successful educator. This combination of martial arts and educational expertise is found nowhere else in the Vail Valley. The Academy offers programs tailored to youth and adults, in a range of settings from classes to private instruction.
Rather than teach one style of Martial Arts, Master Bayley teaches a martial arts system that integrates techniques from a variety of ancient and modern disciplines. By combining major martial arts systems from China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Golden Gloves boxing, Master Bayley teaches students to become complete, well rounded martial athletes – the foundation for a successful cross training regimen in all other sports for youth and adults.
All Academy instruction is held at the Vail Recreation District Gymnastic Center across I70 from Lionshead and easily accessible from North Frontage Road.

Why this program?
90% of attacks on women, children, and men happen the same way. Attendees will learn defenses to these common attacks.
The starting point is learning to recognize and avoid most attacks. If an attack can’t be avoided, then it’s important to know how to win in the kind of dangerous situation a person will face 9 out of 10 times. Among other things, you can learn to use defensive tools everyone has near them, i.e., ice scrapers.
There are three components to this 8-week course, which is based on a national, award-winning safety program.
Part 1. Urban Outward Bound (safe camping on concrete). This is what danger looks like in the city and similar settings; and this is how you can recognize jeopardy and react to protect yourself and others.
Part 2. Personal Empowerment: Go with your feelings. Matt has worked with numerous victims’ service organizations. As he says: “While taking back control of their lives, invariably, each person says at some point, ‘I felt something was out of place’ or, ‘I was uncomfortable with the situation, but I talked myself out of doing something about it.’” Attendees will learn what to do.
Part 3. Defensive Tactics and Techniques that Work. This is physical self-defense training that you can master. You will learn, for example, that there are a dozen parts of the body that break with a blow of 5 pounds pressure or less. Each student learns where and how to successfully attack these spots.
Statistics from the most comprehensive study ever done by the Justice Department on violent crime reveal:
1. Regardless of age, when a woman is attacked and fights back like a wildcat, the woman wins more than 80% of the time.
2. When a woman uses a weapon of any kind to repel an attack, the woman emerges a non-victim of violent crime 97% of the time.
3. If a potential victim avoids being overcome by an attacker for 15 seconds, there is a 95% chance she will WIN!
Here are a sample of awards and a letter of recommendation that Matt Bayley and the self-defense programs he teaches have received over the years:

Beth El College of Nursing
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter of reference for Matthew Bayley. I have known Matthew for the past five years and have worked with him as a guest speaker in a course at Beth-EI College of Nursing. Matthew has presented information regarding self-defense techniques to students enrolled in the Women's Health Care Issues course. Matthew has been a dynamic speaker on all occasions. He presents a comprehensive overview of the problem of assault on women. He presents factual data and makes the information real, yet it does not overwhelm the students. He quickly establishes the idea that each student can learn self-defense techniques and can become more knowledgeable about self-protection. The techniques are quickly learned, and students leave the presentation feeling empowered. Matthew's sense of dedication to his mission, and his sense of humor make his presentations fun as well as very useful. He is consistently able to obtain and hold the student’s attention, and provides support, and encouragement as the students learn the techniques.
I would recommend Matthew highly in any presentations that he would offer.
