 Adult Program

To be clear, the adult program is not a sports martial art class.                                                  It is an Urban Close Quarter Combat Class.

Master Bayley is certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for law enforcement; he has trained with, trained under, and has been the instructor for elite units of every branch of the U.S. military. He developed this class for adults who wish to learn how to protect themselves and their families.

There is, however, another unique aspect to the adult program:  it is adaptive.  That is, it is designed specifically to minimize athletic injuries that adults may suffer in any kind of sporting endeavor or athletic training.  In martial arts, adults often ask: “Can I learn an aggressive self-defense system without getting hurt?”  Yes indeed, the chances of injury can be greatly reduced with the proper instructor.

As an example, during Desert Storm, Master Bayley worked with helicopter pilots, instructing them how to defend themselves against multiple attackers if they were shot down behind enemy lines.

A pilot injured in this type of training cannot deploy, so safety in training, even in highly dangerous environments, is paramount.  The Army selected Master Bayley as the instructor for this rigorous training because of his reputation for keeping pilots safe and injury-free.

If the ability to protect yourself and your family is a skill set you want to acquire, this is the program you  been looking for.

Big Kids Little Kids Preschool and Learning Center

To Whom It May Concern, We have been taking children to Mathew Bayley’s Martial Arts School for Karate instructions since April 1987. The results have been amazing. Children who had a very negative impression of themselves were astounded by their own accomplishments. We heard, "Look what I can do instead of " I can’t. Mathew knows each child individually and works to help each child feel a sense of accomplishment over reaching even the smallest goal.

When Observing the classes, you can feel the positive attitude in Mathew and in the children.                                          As an instructor Mathew is consistent in his teaching and in the control techniques. He is firm yet friendly and warm; the children know what to expect.

My only concern is that more of our parents do not take advantage of this program, that we make available for their children.

Sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                                                      Jerry Miller

We at Children's World, enthusiastically support the services of Mathew  Bayley                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               We take children from 3 1/2-year-old to 10-year-old to a one-hour karate class every week.                                          The children really look forward to Wednesdays when they can go and practice their newly learned skills.       Instead of thinking of the class as hard, they think of it is fun. This is the key to Mathew’s success.

Mathew also feels that each child's self-image is fragile and he's careful to teach in a nurturing way. Punctuated with lots of humor. He notices even the smallest accomplishment and is always ready with praise. This is not to say the classes are easy or he lacks control of the children he teaches. He gives the children he teaches unconditional respect and receives it in return. The respect the children hold for him is so complete, even when they leave, the children continue to work on respecting our staff and each other. Mathew also keeps his program flexible enough to incorporate his students desires on a daily  basis.      .                                                                                     1989

Since 1977 the Vail Academy of Martial Arts has been the one constant in martial arts education in the Vail Valley.  Children and adults benefit from a wide variety of blended martial arts programs.  Grand Master Mathew Bayley, a 8th degree black belt in Chinese martial arts and a 3rd degree black belt in ju-jitsu, is also widely recognized as a successful educator.  This combination of martial arts and educational expertise is found nowhere else in the Vail Valley.  Vail Academy offers programs tailored to youth and adults, in a range of settings from classes to private instruction.

Rather than teach one style of Martial Arts, Master Bayley teaches a martial arts system that integrates techniques from a variety of ancient and modern disciplines.  By combining major martial arts systems from China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Golden Gloves boxing, Master Bayley teaches students to become complete, well rounded martial athletes – the foundation for a successful cross training regimen in all other sports for youth and adults.

Thank you for all your kind and guiding words to the kids today – your interactions with them are priceless and will carry a lifelong impact. I keep forgetting to tell you. Do you remember when you pulled me aside to talk about -------'s challenge with the tracking of his feet.  Well when we got home that night, he pulled me aside and showed me his right foot.  He had a huge bruise from a tendon strain, that I was unaware of. That you caught that change in his movement is just amazing.
Thank you for all that you do for our family.
